A Foundations Course

This course is the first of four courses to prepare students to become Driver Education instructors . It is a 3 week class examining the role of drivers in relation to the Highway Transportation System and factors that influence driving ability. It is designed to provide the prospective driver education instructor with the content knowledge and skills necessary to teach driver education to both teens and adults. All instruction will be focused on and only use the “Michigan-ized” version of the current ADTSEA curriculum.
Students must meet the eligibility requirements for driver education instructors prescribed by the Michigan Department of State. You must be 21 years of age, have had a valid driverís license for 5 years, 4 points or less on your driving record, and a clean criminal history.

  2. What Every Driver Must Know (Instructor will provide)
  3. Michigan DOS Graduated Driver Licensing: A Guide for Parents (Instructor will provide)
  4. ADTSEA 3.0 Driver Education Curriculum, both DVD and printed materials (We can assist you in ordering this online at the ADTSEA website)

  2. Driver Education Resource Material File (i.e., crate style with hanging folders)

This course is 1 of 4 courses needed to become a certified instructor with the State of Michigan Secretary of State. Each course consists of 30 contact and up to 18 hours of laboratory time to be completed outside the classroom. The
final course is a student teaching experience.

The total cost for this course is $850. We accept cash, check or credit card. We can also help you get financing with our local financial institute. There will be a $30.00 charge for all returned checks. $250 deposit is required to hold your spot in the class. Full course payment is due before the first class date.


If a student is unable to continue the course, for any reason, they will be refunded all money paid less a $30.00 registration fee and a $25.00 fee for every classroom hour attended. No refund will be processed until all materials and supplies are returned to the instructor.


NOTICE: This school is required to be licensed by the Michigan Department of State, Driver Training and Testing Programs. If you have any complaint which you cannot settle with this school, write: Michigan Department of State, Driver Training and Testing Programs, Lansing, Michigan 48918. Completion of this course does not guarantee certification or employment as a driving instructor. This course does not guarantee employment as a driving instructor. After completing this course you need to submit a medical and criminal history report to the State for certification.
